By definition, an antique is anything that is around 100 years older or older. Considering this, finding anything that has actually lasted this long is in itself pretty impressive. Many people have taken to the challenge of finding these almost ancient relics, some with rather unique specifications. Of course, the more unique the collection, the more it is worth.
As a result, you may be shocked by what some people have started collecting – you may even be shocked by what you can find and collect on your next visit to your local thrift shop or antique dealer.
Let’s take a look at some of the most random, yet exciting, antique collections out there.
Hearses
That’s right, these cars are a rare collector’s item. The first thing worth noting is that because they are cars, they already have a high value. The stellar workmanship and craftsmanship that went into building these cars are truly something to behold. Throw in the unusual nature of the vehicle and you’ve got a truly unique collectible on your hands
Radium
The radioactive element was once a health aid and novelty used in the early 1900s to the 1950s. it was dubbed a miracle element and was a unique selling point for so many products back in the day. Of course, this meant that items were either incredibly dangerous or incorrectly labelled as having radium when in fact they contained no traces of it. The most common items that feature radium were glow-in-the-dark watches and other instruments.
Mourning Jewellery
This may sound pretty normal, except, this jewellery was made using human hair. During the Victorian era, the morning period was often overly dramatic and elaborate. In some cases, jewellery and other mementos were made from the dead person’s hair. Of course, the greater the budget available, the better the results. Unfortunately, these collectors’ items are incredibly brittle fragile, which makes them even rarer, unlike bonuses to start going.
Hidden Mother Photos
Baby photos are cute, right? In the 19th century, where photographs were not an instant process, mothers had to hold their infants still during the exposure process. These photographs are rare, and even back in the day were highly prized items. They were often the only picture of the child and come from a time where infants did not always survive. They often share haunting, heart-breaking tales from years ago and have become quite the collector’s items.
Haunted Dolls
Apparently, horror stories are not enough to put people off of creepy dolls. Dolls from so many eras are now for sale, with some even featuring ghost stories related to it. These dolls are one of a kind, offer terrifying backstories, and provide quite the addition to any antique collection.
Bedpans
This one is gross but true. These often-discarded items have formed a part of o many different times in history and with so many different types available, it can be a really unique collection.
This list just goes to show, you never know what will become valuable in the next few years or centuries.
